Steve Vai Summer tour

A special report by David Bronstein

If guitar and legends were not words but a maths question the answer would be Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. The two brilliant players will be taking Europe by riff tastic storm this summer playing a series of festival and theatre dates and this is a tour not to be missed.

Joe Satriani or simply Satch has been strumming his guitar since the 1970s. In fact Satriani was all due to enter sports until the day Jimi Hendrix passed away. Satriani called Hendrix's death a calling card for him to put down the ball and pick up the guitar. At first Satriani was actually teaching guitar and low and behold one of his students was Steve Vai. He also taught a certain Kirk Hammett who wanted to improve his shredding ahead of leaving Exodus and joining Metallica. Satriani has sinced enjoyed a successful solo career highlighed by his all time classic release in 1987 Surfing with the Alien. In recent times he has hooked up with legendary singer Sammy Hagar and toured the US with his band playing Van Halen classics.

Steve Vai's music usually makes the jaw drop and he has been playing guitar for five decades non stop. Vai usually tours alone so this tour will be unique and fans will be hoping to hear classic songs like For the Love of God and Tender Surrender. The band have also announced that the great Kenny Aronoff will be on drums. The drummer has been playing since the 1970s and recently learned 25 Van Halen songs last year when he joined Sammy Hagar's band at a moments notice.

Joe Satriani and Steve Vai's tour will be called Surfing with the Hydra and this is one not to be missed.
