Show Notes:
Episode Eighty Eight: This week we invited one of our subscribers Phil Fasso to join us in our discussion over Slayer's initial debut Show No Mercy. This is Phil's favourite Slayer record, so it was a no-brainer to invite him on the pod to talk some riveting Thrash metal. With Billy still being out of action, Phil fit right in and did an admirable job filling Billy's position.
Show No Mercy was released December 3rd, 1983 on Metal Blade Records; proving that label boss Brian Slagel made the right choice. The album was heavily criticized for poor production, however it became Metal Blade's highest selling release. The band used satanic themes in both lyrics and live performances; gaining immediate notice in the metal community. This was the album to help start the thrash revolution along with Kill'Em All and Bonded By Blood.
Fun Facts: The cover art was done by Lawrence R. Reed, who created the concept and overall design. His son Kevin was helping the band at the time setting up Lombardo's drum kit and the lighting during live shows.
