Coming from Italy, Deathless Legacy is an exciting new band that embraces horror themes and theatrics to create a unique sound of goth/metal. The group is fronted by the boundless spirit of Steva la Cinghiala who along with drummer Frater Orion, originated the project as a Death S.S. tribute band, but has since morphed into a fresh entity. Their debut album Rise from the Grave is proof this group has much to strive for creatively, relying upon a live show dressed up as evil spirits and providing the audience with their scary antics in the process.
Much of the music has a theatrical flair, and obvious inspiration comes from acts like Death SS, King Diamond and Mercyful Fate to help cultivate this esthetic. It is said their live shows are enriched by gore, blood splatter and filled with evil performances from professional dancer/performer “The Red Witch” to help scare the crap out of you. It all sounds like a ghoulish package, but the important element to all this is the music itself.
So without further digression, the music on Rise from the Grave is creepy, riveting in certain parts and brimming in theatricality. Songs like “Queen of Necrophilia” and “Flamenco de la Muerte” titillate the listener with genuine morbidity, while tracks like “Spiders” and “Devil’s Thane” flex some muscle. Vocalist Steva really brings her husky tone to the forefront on these tracks recalling a good comparison to the work of Death SS, another longstanding Italian metal band with a similar style/theatrics.
Horror and metal certainly go hand in hand and on this release and the blending of elements like heavy riffing, organs and synths, plus the commanding vocals help to get the point across. Bands like Deathless Legacy are unique because they revel in their influences and present it in such a theatrical fashion. If you like your music creepy, intense and entertaining as hell, then chances are you will enjoy the horrific antics of this band. Highly recommended for all those horror freaks out there.
